25 Weeks!!!

So I'm pretty bad about keeping up with this blog but as I get bigger I will be posting more frequently.  I have gained around 20-25lbs so far.  At my 24 week visit they both weighed 1.5 lbs!!! So they are right on target.  They are both head down and moving like crazy.  I still can't imagine how big I will get towards the end of my pregnancy.  We have been thinking about names and still love Birdie for one of the girls.  We like Pearl & Hazel too.  Most of our friends & family don't like these choices but its not their babies...so suggestions are welcome and negative feedback on our choices please keep to yourself.  Just kinda funny how passionate people can be about names they like and DON'T like.  The care I've been getting at Mt. Sinai has been great so far. A bit excessive on the ultra sounds but always very nice and friendly.  Dr. Tang has also said that she is willing to do a breech extraction if necessary for a vaginal birth. Most OBs go straight for a C-section if one twin is breech. I'm happy they are willing to go the most natural route with me. Have a wonderful new year everyone!!!!

19 Weeks!

It's been quite awhile since I have updated this blog. Sorry about that.  So we are having 2 girls. You can see that I am getting bigger. I've gained about 12-14lbs somewhere around there.  The ultrasound pictures show the babies fighting.  One of the ladies is throwing a flying elbow at her sister.  I am going to give pregnancy modeling a try. I met with Expecting Models the other day and all went well.  I figure it will be a great way to document the pregnancy.  And hopefully make us a few bucks!!!  I have been feeling some movement in there but not much yet.  We are still throwing around name ideas but still really like Hazel & Birdie.  Dan is going to his first ultrasound appointment this coming Tuesday.  It will be nice to have him see those two bugs fighting in there.

16 weeks!!!

So I haven't posted in awhile and my belly has been growing in the meantime. I've gained 8 pounds and started to feel some movement.  I have an appointment tomorrow for another ultrasound. I am hoping they can tell me the sex of the lil monkeys.  If they cant tell at this appointment I can find out at 18 weeks. Don't know if we can wait that long.  Finding out we were having twins was the biggest surprise!!!!  I also found out that I cant really have a doula in the delivery room because it will take place in the operating room.  Oh well. I'm learning to be flexible and not to be bossed around at the same time. A happy medium. Til next post.........

BABY A & BABY B

So at 13 weeks I went in for a nuchal fold screening which came out just fine.  Both babies look good and healthy.  Baby B is bigger than baby A but I was told it was not a concern at the time.  The scary alien picture is of baby B and the profile shot is baby A.  It was very cool to watch them kick around in there.  Still amazed that there are two lil bugs in there.  Mia has been telling everyone that Mommy has two babies in there as she points to my belly.  I have given up on the home birth plan and I am going to deliver at Mt. Sinai as naturally and drug free as possible.  On the hunt for a toughie doula who can be a strong voice in the operating room.  Standard procedure to be in the operating room when delivering twins.  Not too fond of that part but oh well!!!  Next OB/Gyn appointment is next week and hopefully I can talk to Dr. Tang more about my desire for a natural birth.  I'll post a picture of my growing belly next post.

11 WEEKS...UH TWINS!!!!

So at 10 weeks I went to Dr. Tang and got an ultrasound. To my complete and utter shock we found out we are pregnant with twins. Holy crap!!!!!  We are still shocked.  She was doing the ultrasound and I said "There's only one right??" Totally kidding. She said Oh my gosh there's 2!!! I almost fell onto the floor.  Shock has turned into excitement.  Can't wait for my next appointment to make sure they are doing okay. This will be at 13 weeks.  I am now confused about our birth plan. We really don't have one anymore. Cara said she would still deliver me at home but I have some apprehension. I really need to examine all of my options and all the risks associated with twins. WOW!!!

9 weeks

So I am at 9 weeks!  I have been plagued with chronic migraines which have been extremely draining.  I found a wonderful acupuncturist named Margaret Hallisey.  She works out of Self salon which is right on Grand Street.  Hopefully this will help to decrease the number of pregnancy migraines.  I am looking forward to my first visit at my regular ob/gyn Dr.Tang (yes that's really her name).  I plan on seeing her until we meet our homebirth midwife.  That's all for now!

Okay at 7 weeks my belly has started to pop. Is this even possible?? Not much but its getting hard and round.  I don't remember this happening the first time around until about 4 months. Well here we go!!!!

So my stomach is still flat but losing that definition that I had worked so hard to get at the gym over the last few months.  We are at 6 weeks.  Feeling soo...tired.  I have a consultation with a home birth midwife in mid September.  She seems really great and Dan & I are looking forward to our meeting with her.  Her name is Cara Muhlhahn and I have heard nothing but wonderful things about her.  She is involved in the documentary film The Business of Being Born.  I am going to do my best to see it as soon as I can get my hands on it.  We are thinking that giving birth at home would be the best option for our family.  Bella is a little apprehensive but we are going to have her tag along to the family consultation with our potential midwife.  Hopefully it will make her a bit more comfortable with the idea.

Hey all. Look at the results to my pregnancy test!!! They a little fuzzy but definitely positive. We are very excited and happy to announce that we will be adding another member to our family.  Just a bit of advice for anyone looking to buy a pregnancy test, get the clear blue easy DIGITAL!! The one with the little pink lines tend to give false negatives when you are early on in the pregnancy, when the digital seems to be more accurate sooner.
